The Taliban has fired Hamid Shinwari, executive director of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, and appointed Naseebullah Haqqani as the board's new director.
Hamid Shinwari, executive director of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, posted on his official Facebook page Monday that he had been fired by Anas Haqqani, the younger brother of the new Taliban interior minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani, according to the Associated Press.
He said he was not given any reason for his dismissal but was told that Naseebullah Haqqani would replace him.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board's official Facebook page has also announced the appointment of Naseebullah Haqqani as its new executive director.
However, it is not yet clear whether the new head of the Afghanistan Cricket Board is a relative of Sirajuddin Haqqani, wanted by the FBI.
The Taliban's ban on women's sports has provoked an international outcry, with Afghan women footballers arriving in Pakistan with their families last week.
In addition, the Australian Cricket Board last week canceled a match with the Afghan cricket team in protest of the ban on women's sports in Afghanistan.
