Intelligence officials cracking down on smuggling in India have seized 2,700 kilograms, or about three tonnes, of heroin, valued at دو 2.7 billion, during a major operation at a Gujarat port.
Authorities told the BBC that forensic testing of the seized drugs was under way to determine its true value.
A statement said two people had been arrested and several others were being questioned.
The heroin shipment came from Afghanistan, where it was described as a natural white stone powder.
He was sent from Iran to the port of Mandra in Gujarat.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said it had received a tip-off that a shipment of suspected drugs was leaving the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.
The DRI said that the intelligence also revealed that the consignment was being imported by a company from Vijayawada, a city in southern India.
