Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has called on Afghanistan's caretaker Prime Minister Mullah Hassan Akhund in Kabul.
According to Pakistani state media, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on the occasion that Pakistan wants lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
He said that Pakistan was ready to help the Afghan people on the basis of humanitarian sympathy and also wanted to expand trade relations.
During the meeting, bilateral relations, further cooperation in the economic field and trade and commerce were also discussed.
Earlier, when Shah Mehmood Qureshi arrived at Kabul Airport with his delegation, he was welcomed by Afghanistan's Interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaki, Pakistan's Ambassador to Afghanistan Mansoor Ahmad Khan and senior Afghan Foreign Ministry officials.
Special Representative of the Prime Minister for Afghanistan Muhammad Sadiq, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, Secretary Commerce Saleh Ahmad Farooqi, Chairman PIA Air Marshal (retd) Arshad Malik, Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik, Customs, FBR and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are also ministers. According to official sources, the Foreign Minister will brief the Afghan leaders on Pakistan's position on maintaining law and order in Afghanistan and its future course of action.
On the occasion, the Foreign Minister said that Pakistan, being a close brotherly neighbor of Afghanistan, was doing its utmost for regional peace and stability.
"Pakistan has increased border crossing points to facilitate bilateral trade with Afghanistan," he said. Pakistan has introduced a new visa regime to facilitate the movement and travel of Afghan brothers under the Kuwait Protocol.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, “We are working to promote trade with Afghanistan and facilitate the movement of cargo. In a spirit of goodwill, Pakistan has in recent days sent humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in the form of food and medicine.
According to the statement, the Foreign Minister's visit to Kabul is aimed at supporting the Afghan people in tackling the economic crisis, enhancing bilateral trade and economic and people-to-people cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
