A young man in Pune, India, has alleged that Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kandra and SFL Fitness director Kashif Khan have fraudulently taken Rs 1.51 crore from him.
According to the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, Mumbai's Bandra police say that 25-year-old Yash Nitin Barai has lodged a complaint that Kashif Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kandra and others have asked him to invest in a fitness franchise.Police said that Yash Nitin had a plot in Indraprastha in Pune on which the said persons had expressed their desire to open a fitness franchise.
The men allegedly promised Yash Nitin that they would share in the profits from the business.
Yash Nitin's father had paid Rs 1.51 crore to Kashif Khan in 2014, within three months.
However, the project was never started and when Yash Nitin demanded his money back, he was threatened.
Bandra police have registered a case against Shalpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kandra and Kashif Khan for fraud, criminal intimidation and conspiracy.
An official of the Bandra police station said, "We have registered a case against Barai and we have recorded his full statement." We are now investigating the case and verifying all the documents and bank statements.
Shilpa Shetty was married to Raj Kandra in 2009 and their first son was born in 2012. The couple gave birth to a daughter last year.
Raj Kandra, owner of an app called JL Stream, was co-owner of the Indian Premier League team Rajasthan Royals. In 2013, he was questioned by the Delhi Police in connection with the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
