American fashion model Kim Kardashian has flown 30 female players of Afghan football team along with their families from Pakistan to London on a chartered plane.
According to the Associated Press, 130 people, including 30 women players of the Afghan women's youth development football team, arrived in London from Pakistan on Thursday morning.
In addition to the lesser Kardashians, the Jewish clergy in the US state of New York and a British football club have helped bring the female players to London with their families.English Premier League club Leeds United has continued to offer player support.
Upon arrival in London, all Afghan travelers are quarantined for ten days, after which they will begin their regular life in the new city.
The members of the youth development football team come from poor families who managed to reach Pakistan from Afghanistan after the Taliban took over.
The team requested help from the American social group Zedek Association. The group had earlier helped expel the last Jew living in Kabul from Afghanistan.
Moshe Margaret, founder of the Zedek Association, who has worked on legal reform with Kim Kardashian, asked the fashion model to help pay for the chartered plane."An hour after the zoom call, I received a message that Kim Kardashian wanted to fund the entire flight," Margaret told the Associated Press.
Khaleda Popal, former captain of the Afghan women's national football team, expressed happiness and consolation that girls and women were out of danger.
Khaleda Popal also campaigned for the safe evacuation of female athletes from Afghanistan after the Taliban took over the country.
He said some of the families of the female athletes had been killed or taken away by the Taliban.
"There was a lot of danger and anxiety, so it was important to get them out of Afghanistan as soon as possible."
Australia helped evacuate the Afghan national women's soccer team, while the girls' youth team was relocated to Portugal.
