Prince Mohammed Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the United Kingdom, has praised the country's modernization efforts on a large scale.
According to Arab News, Saudi Ambassador to Britain Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan told The Times that "the pace has been very high in the last five years, a thousand laws have been changed or removed.
"There is a misconception about the Saudis that we never change, but going back 100 years has been dramatic," he said. My grandfather went to work on horseback, my father flew fast fighter jets and my cousin went into space.
Prince Khalid said that the method of legislation for women in the country is also changing. "Before posting here (in the UK), I went back for two days and I called one of my sisters and said let's go for coffee. May I come and cook for you? "No, I got my car," he said.
"Ten years ago, it was unthinkable for him to get a job," said the Saudi ambassador to Britain. We are still a very conservative society but our population is very young and they want a different world.
"I feel very Saudi, but I grew up in the West," said the Saudi ambassador, who studied at Eaton College before Oxford University and Sandhurst.
Prince Khalid has strong ties to Britain, not only through being educated in Britain but also through his English wife, Lucy Cothbert, niece of the Duke of Northumberland.
Prince Khalid said about Saudi modernization that there is a big difference in Saudi society.
"We have the highest percentage of phones per capita in the world, about three phones per person," he said.
"All the young people are on Instagram. My generation didn't have much fun at home so we had to go abroad. Now young people want to go to shops and cinemas.
"We have our first graduation for women in the army, women are in the government, in the police, we are training women judges and we have a law for equal opportunities and equal pay," Prince Khalid told The Times. ۔ '
Prince Khalid also detailed the rapid expansion of the Saudi tourism industry, including the Giga projects that are being planned.
"We launched our online tourist visa in 2019. We issued 400,000, 40,000 visas to the UK before the outbreak.
"We are developing resorts with the Red Sea project and the new city of the future, Newem. We also have 330 Hertz sites. These are part of a سات 7 trillion investment in the Giga Project Vision 2030 reform plan.
