Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar has denied the allegations leveled against him by former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Justice Rana M. Shamim regarding the sentencing of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz and termed them as fabrications and inventions.
Talking to Urdu News, the former Chief Justice termed as baseless the news that he had given any instructions to the judge of Islamabad High Court regarding the detention of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif till the holding of 2018 elections. Were"I'm not stupid enough to talk like that in front of everyone, nor do I have anything to do with it. I don't know where they came from."
According to Justice (retd) Saqib Nisar, no such incident has been reported by Justice Rana M. Shamim nor have I given any instructions to any subordinate judge.
Asked by Urdu News whether he would go to court against the accused judge, he said he had no such intention. "Such things have no shelf life."
He asserted that his confession had been obtained through torture.
Earlier, according to a report in The News, former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Justice Rana M. Shamim said in a freshly certified affidavit that he was a witness to the incident when then-Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar addressed the High Court. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif should remain in jail till the general elections are held.According to the document, Rana Shamim made the statement before the Oath Commissioner on November 10, 2021. The notarized affidavit bears the signature of the former Chief Justice of Gilgit-Baltistan and a copy of his identity card.
