According to the Heavy Duty Vehicle Act, the Saudi Transport General Authority has directed the transport companies to bring their affairs under the purview of the law before the end of 2022.
Saudi Arabia's Makkah newspaper quoted the Transport Authority as saying that "by the end of next year, Saudi citizens who do not own transport companies will be eligible to own only one truck."The Transport Authority has also imposed a ban on logistics service providers to rectify their issues within the stipulated deadline.
Companies providing logistics services will be allowed to have 9 trucks while Saudi nationals will be allowed to have one truck.
The authority added that "logistics service providers will have to explain if they have more than a certain number of trucks, which will require a solid argument for having more trucks."
It should be noted that there was no such restriction before the said law by the authority. Ordinary Saudi citizens could own several trucks while logistics companies also keep trucks as per their requirement.
