UN General Assembly President Abdullah Shahid has said that the Middle East security is at stake in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
According to Arab News, the President of the General Assembly has warned that the credibility of the international community and the ability to work together to resolve global conflicts in accordance with the UN's ideology is also at stake.
He called on all member states to work for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of international human rights, humanitarian law and the United Nations Charter."We must uphold the reputation of this great institution, emphasize positive debate and communication between the parties concerned."
Addressing a General Assembly session on Wednesday on the situation in Palestine and the Middle East, President Abdullah Shahid said it was "disappointing" that no significant progress had been made on the issue since last year.
He said the ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel has an impact on the rest of the region, which threatens the stability of the region.
The President of the General Assembly, Abdullah Shahid, has said that as long as the Palestinian people are deprived of their right to a state, as long as illegal settlements continue to be built on Palestinian land, as long as Palestinian families live in their homes because of violence and injustice. Will continue to leave, and will not be able to return home, then anger and bitterness will continue to grow.Abdullah Shahid said that a two state solution based on pre-1967 borders is very important and the world can help in resolving this dispute.
He said more than half of the 5 million Palestinians living in the occupied territories needed humanitarian assistance to survive, while 80 percent of Palestinians living in Gaza were crying out for access to basic services and services.
He added that the situation of Palestinian refugees seeking refuge in the Middle East is also at risk.
He called on the international community to provide financial assistance so that the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) could continue to provide assistance to those affected.
