Washington: American scientists have developed a protein that can treat diabetes and obesity at the same time. Its successful initial trials on mice have also been completed.
Dr. Rajan Saha and colleagues at the University of Washington School of Medicine, while researching a protein called "SWELL1", found that it was associated with type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, liver fat accumulation and obesity. Helps to get rid of many conditions which are collectively called 'metabolic syndrome'.
Deficiency of the same "Soul One protein" in the body indicates metabolic syndrome which can be fatal in the future.
Scientists have modified a new protein called "SN 401" by modifying the "Southern Protein" which is better than the Southern One in eliminating metabolic syndrome, especially diabetes and obesity.
In experiments on mice, SN-401 performed remarkably well, improving the pancreatic insulin secretion and reducing body fat, as well as improving the overall health of diabetic and obese mice.
The details of this research by Dr. Rajan and his colleagues have been published online in the latest issue of the research journal Nature Communications.
Dr. Rajan has also set up a startup company in collaboration with the University of Washington to introduce SN 401 and other synthetic proteins of this nature as medicine.
It should be noted that the number of people suffering from obesity and diabetes is increasing rapidly in the world and it is feared that if this situation is not effectively addressed as soon as possible, it will become one of the deadliest diseases in the world in the future. However, the annual death toll could rise dramatically.
