 INDIANA: A technique developed by NASA for missions to the Moon, Mars and beyond could charge electric vehicles on Earth in five minutes.

Researchers at Purdue University in the US state of Indiana used NASA's Fluid Boiling Module for a technique that reduced the heat produced by passing 1,400 amperes of electricity through the wires.

Modern chargers used for charging provide 520 amps of current, which can take at least 20 minutes to charge a vehicle at a station, so people usually stand next to a charging socket for convenience.

NASA first built the system for the International Space Station where it was tested in microgravity to ensure its success for future space missions.

The purpose of this technology was to meet the need of orbiting laboratories and other spacecraft for technology that could efficiently transfer energy between systems.

The technology piqued the interest of Issam Mudawar, a professor of mechanical engineering at Purdue University, and he built a prototype in 2021, which was announced last Tuesday.
