Beirut: Lebanon and Israel have reached a historic agreement to end a long-running maritime border dispute in the Mediterranean, brokered by the United States.

Israel and Lebanon have long been at loggerheads over ownership of the gas-rich region, but the two have now agreed on a middle ground, the details of which will be made public after approval by the heads of state.
Deputy Speaker Elias Bou Saab, who participated in the negotiations on behalf of Lebanon, told the media that the final draft of the agreement was presented to President Michel Aoun, who will officially approve it.
Ilyas Bu Saab said that the parties are in agreement in the agreement reached between the negotiation teams. All our demands have been accepted and hopefully Israel will think the same about this deal.
On this occasion, Israeli national security adviser Eyal Halata, who headed the Israeli negotiating team, supported the Lebanese negotiator Elias Bou Saab, saying that the changes we had asked for were also corrected.
The negotiators submitted the draft of the agreement to their respective presidents, after their approval, the date of signing the agreement will be announced and its contents will be made public.
It should be noted that there are trillions of cubic feet of gas in this area of the Mediterranean Sea and Lebanon hopes that the permission to explore for gas in this area will solve the problem of electricity for 20 years.
