Addressing the UN General Assembly, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged the world to follow the example of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has pledged to plant 10 billion trees in the country.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly on the issue of climate change facing the world, the British Prime Minister also acknowledged that developed countries should realize their responsibilities and give full support to developing countries.
Talking about air pollution and carbon emissions, he said that not only we have to reduce these emissions but also restore the natural balance.
"We need to not only stop the loss of trees, but also the damage to trees and biodiversity by 2030," he said. That is why we in the UK are committed to planting one million trees to beautify the country and strengthen flood protection.
"I urge all nations to follow the example of Imran Khan who has pledged to plant 10 billion trees in Pakistan alone," he said.
It may be recalled that the Billion Tree Tsunami Project was started during the first provincial government of the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The task force for the Billion Tree Tsunami Project was formed in 2013. However, the project was formally launched in 2015 by PTI chief Imran Khan. Imran Khan's eco-friendly plan has also been recognized globally by various environmental organizations.
"We must realize our responsibility to help developed countries in this regard," he said.
In his speech, Boris Johnson also welcomed the announcement by Chinese President Xi Jinping to stop investing in coal-fired power plants internationally.
He said in response to Chinese President Xi Jinping's announcement that he hoped China would stop using coal for energy.
