Online streaming platform Netflix has reduced the subscription fee for Pakistani users by up to Rs 400, which will apply to next month's billing.
The reduction in subscription fees was announced by Netflix to Pakistani users in an email on October 14. According to the information provided by Netflix, the prices of standard and premium packages have been reduced by Rs 400.
Earlier, the premium package was available at Rs 1,500 while the standard was available at Rs 1,200, which has been reduced to Rs 1,100 and Rs 800 respectively.
Netflix offers four types of payment plans, in addition to standard and premium, there are also basic and mobile plans which are available to the customers at Rs 450 and Rs 250 respectively.
When asked by Netflix, correspondent Mark Randall said the company could not yet say whether the shortfall was permanent or for a specific period of time, although it was certain that it would be specific to Pakistani consumers. Prices have been reduced so that they can make the most of the better service.
Earlier, Netflix launched its free mobile subscription package in Kenya last month, aimed at gaining a market share of 20 million mobile users. In this offer, Kenyan mobile users can watch Netflix without any payment, however, the service includes advertisements.
Surprisingly, Netflix increased its subscription fees in European countries and New Zealand. It turns out that Netflix is making its service cheaper in developing countries, but not in developed countries.
After receiving an email about the reduction in subscription fees, many users turned to Twitter and gave their views in this regard. Some users said the price was lowered so that people could create their own accounts and stop asking for passwords from others.
