US President Joe Biden has said that "the United States will come to the defense of Taiwan and is committed to defending the island that China claims as its territory."
"Yes, we are determined to do that," he was quoted as saying by CNN at the town hall on Thursday.
"People don't have to worry about Washington's military might because China, Russia and the world know we are the most powerful military in the history of the world," Biden said."The thing you need to worry about is whether or not they are going to engage in activities that will put them in a position where they can make a serious mistake."
It should be noted that military tensions between Taiwan and China have reached their worst level in 40 years.
Taiwan's defense minister said earlier this month that China had the capability to launch a "full-scale" attack on Taiwan by 2025.
Earlier this month, 38 Chinese warplanes flew over the Taiwan border.
Taiwan's Defense Ministry said its plane issued a warning when 22 Chinese fighters, two bombers and a submarine-destroying aircraft entered the defense zone in the southwest.
According to Taiwan's Ministry of Defense, 13 more Chinese warplanes later flew over the area.
This area is not called Taiwan's airspace, but a defense zone that covers a large area, including China's defense zone.
The Chinese government has repeatedly announced that it will annex Taiwan.
China's policy towards Taiwan has intensified since 2016, thanks to President Xi Jinping, who says Taiwan is already "sovereign."
Last year, Chinese warships violated Taiwan's defense zone 380 times, up from 500 in the first nine months of this year.
