In Libya, the election commission issued a preliminary ruling on Wednesday stating that "Saif al-Islam is not eligible to run in the presidential election."
Al-Arabiya Net quoted an Election Commission official as saying that "Saif al-Islam Gaddafi's name has been removed from the list of presidential candidates."There were 98 candidates in the presidential race, of which 25 were eliminated, with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi topping the list.
The presidential election is scheduled for December 24. Candidates include two women.
It should be noted that the process of submitting papers for the presidential election in Libya ended on Monday.
Al-Arabiya says that the appeals will be decided by the judiciary after the initial decision of the Election Commission.
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, has registered as a presidential candidate, according to Reuters.
"Saif al-Islam Gaddafi has registered his candidacy for the presidency on Sunday," an Electoral Commission official said.
In the photos provided to social media, Saif-ul-Islam could be seen signing documents at the registration center in a traditional brown dress with a turban on his head.
