Australia's Test captain Tim Penn has resigned over allegations that he sent text messages to a female colleague.
According to the French news agency AFP, the sudden resignation of Team Penn is being described as a blow to the Australian team.
This comes at a time when the Ashes series against traditional rivals England is just three weeks away.Tim Penn resigned as team leader during a news conference in Hobart on Friday. He said captaining the Australian team was "the greatest honor of his life".
"I'm sorry I damaged the game's reputation," said Tim Penn, 36.
"About four years ago, I was involved in exchanging text messages with a colleague who went public," said Tim Penn.
"This move by me in 2017 was neither the pride of the Australian team nor the morality of the community."
"I am resigning as captain of the Australian Test team. He could not hold back his tears, citing the years-old scandal," Tim Payne said emotionally during the news conference.
