The Pentagon says the US military will increase its troop numbers and bases, keeping in mind China and Russia, while maintaining its forces in the Middle East to deter Iran and jihadist groups.

The move comes as a new defense alliance is being formed, which is being dubbed Acos. The alliance includes the United States, Britain and Australia and aims to counter China's development.
China is building its own navy and testing US military dominance in Asia for decades.
The alliance came as Beijing tightened its grip on the disputed South China Sea and increased its military threats against Taiwan.
It should be noted that the United States is an important ally of Taiwan and a supplier of arms.
