In Indian-administered Kashmir, several family members demanding the return of the bodies of two persons were detained by the police during a protest and were removed from the protest site.
Four people were killed in an alleged encounter near Srinagar on Monday night and the families of two of them say they were innocent.
Both were identified as Altaf Ahmed Bhatt and Dr Mudassar Gul.According to Indian media, those killed in the police encounter were buried in Handwara in the absence of their families.
Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police in Indian-administered Kashmir, had claimed in a press conference that two of the dead were Altaf Ahmed Bhatt and Dr Mudassir Gul, facilitators of the terrorists.
According to the Indian Express, IG Vijay Kumar said that Dr Mudassar Gul was living in the house of Altaf Ahmed Bhatt as a tenant and a room in the same house was used by the militants.
He said that when a person provides shelter to militants, he should know what the expected losses might be. However, the families of the two men say they had no links to any militants.
Local journalist Shahid Tantra shared a video on Twitter in which police officers could be seen detaining some members of their families.Regarding the arrest of the protesters, IG of Indian-administered Kashmir Vijay Kumar said that the protesters were only removed from there and were not taken into custody.
"They are all at home now," he added.
