One of Spain's busiest airports was closed for four hours after several passengers on an emergency landing plane escaped.
AFP news agency quoted Palma de Mallorca airport officials as saying that the plane from Morocco to Turkey made an emergency landing on the Mediterranean island of Mallorca due to a medical emergency.
According to the island's civil guard police, 20 passengers took the opportunity to evacuate the sick passenger from the plane to the hospital while the plane was parked on the tarmac.
Two people were later arrested, according to police.
The local newspaper El Peace reports that investigators are also working on the assumption that a medical emergency was deliberately created for illegal entry into Spain.
According to the newspaper, the passenger who had complained of ill health when he was taken to the hospital, the doctors declared him completely healthy after a medical examination and the authorities arrested him on the charge of 'assisting in illegal immigration'.
According to the newspaper, the passenger who took the alleged sick passenger to the hospital also disappeared from the spot while the authorities have arrested a total of five people.
According to airport officials, due to the security incident, 13 flights arriving on the island were diverted to other airports, while 16 flights from Palma de Mallorca were delayed.
The airport was reopened for late night flights after being closed for four hours.
